Policies

1. NO HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS ARE ACCEPTED LATE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. All projects, essays and major assignments will be deducted points if they are turned in late:

AP Literature & Composition: -20 points each DAY it is late

English IV Academic:              -10 points each DAY it is late

2. ASK QUESTIONS: The best way for me to help you succeed this year is if you ask questions before, during, and after class.  Most likely, someone else in the class has the same question as you.

3. EXTRA HELP AND TUTORING: If you are struggling in my classes, it is crucial to make an appointment for extra help.  Do not wait until interims or the end of the marking period.  Coming before or after school, as well as, during your lunch or homeroom, to review homework, quizzes, readings, and essays is one best ways to help improve your grade! I am available before school Mon-Fri 6:45am-7:15am and after school by appointment.  The best way to reach me is by email.

4. ABSENT FROM CLASS/SCHOOL: If a student is absent from class, he or she is responsible for the missed work. The number of days missed, is the number of days the student has to make up the missing assignments.  Homework that was due on a day the student was absent must be turned in the next day he/she is in school.  All work must be HANDED directly to a teacher. I encourage my students to email me when they are sick, check the class website/Facebook page, and contact a classmate, so they do not fall behind.  I also expect students to notify me if they are aware they will be out of school for an extended period of time, for example a scheduled vacation.

5. CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM: It is simple; don’t do it!  There is a zero tolerance policy for cheating and plagiarism in my classroom and at PHS.  If a student is caught, he or she will fail the assignment without having the opportunity to make it up and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken place.

6. TECHNOLOGY: The use of cell phones, iPods and other technology during class is strictly prohibited unless otherwise indicated. According to school policy, cell phones will be confiscated and turned into security to be picked up at the end of the day.

7. LATE TO CLASS: The following is PHS’s policy for lateness to class:

  •             1st late: Teacher/student conference
  •             2nd late: Teacher/parent contact
  •             3rd late: Teacher/parent contact and teacher detention
  •             4th late: Referral to the Dean of Students
  •             5th late: Referral to the Dean of Students
  •             6th late: Referral to the Assistant Principal and failure for the MP

8. CUTTING CLASS: Three cuts from class, results in failure for the marking period.  The following is PHS’s policy for cutting class:

  • 1st offense: Teacher/parent contact; discipline referral and assigned a detention
  • 2nd offense: Teacher/parent contact; discipline referral; Dean of Students contacts parents and assigns a detention
  • 3rd offense: Teacher/parent contact; Dean of Students contacts parents and assigns ICE; meeting with counselor and parents
  • 4th offense: Teacher writes referral; Assistant Principal contacts parents; out of school suspension and failure for the marking period

9. ALL SCHOOL RULES APPLY

I am looking forward to having an exciting and engaging school year! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.  The best way to reach me is by email at jloux@pway.org.
